Nobody ever assumes that people learn from their mistakes. Project M was an excellent collaborative group that built an absolutely crackerjack engine for blending the two previous epochs of Metroid-dom (side-scrolling 2D and First Person), the problems with the game (which have been severely overblown by a dedicated hatebase), were large-scale things that could be easily adjusted in the future (hell, could have easily been adjusted: unlock a few doors, come up with a deus ex machina to explain how she lost her powers again so she has to get them back, and tone down her response to Ridley by 20%, and bam, no problems), which would be a natural response to the criticism.
