OT: the 360 is doing massive numbers, maybe one day if Wii sales slow donw termendously and the 360 keeps on going, we could see the gap close in the US |
I was thinking about this, and it's possible, but unlikely. 360 is 10 million sales behind the Wii in Americas, and last year it was outsold by the Wii by 1 million. However, 360 is the only console with Year on Year gains, and it's likely that 2011 will either be it's peak year (again), or at least come close to peak sales. Wii sales are dropping.
So I feel 360 sales in Americas will be catching up to Wii sales, but will it catch up alltogether? I dont think so. 10 million is too large of a gap.
I also think the 360 successor will be bigger then the 360. MS finally is being recognized as a values console developer, whats to stop people in Americas from dedicating themselves to the domestic brand? The 360 in the early years and original XB were riskier investments.
Note: In United Kingdom, 360 may overtake Wii. Wii is only 1.7 million units ahead of the 360 in UK, and although it's a smaller country, the percent lead the Wii has is smaller. The difference in UK is 28%, but the difference in Americas is 34%, and last week 360 ousold Wii by 66% in UK, but only 35% in US.
