Changing sides isn't the same as backstabbing. I mean, I don't think Nintendo published DQ-DQVI anywhere.

Actually, the NES release of Dragon Quest 1 (then titled Dragon Warrior) was published by Nintendo in the US. (For that matter, so was Final Fantasy 1. Was Nintendo trying to help RPGs get a foothold over here?) Enix started publishing it themselves at DQ2. Nintendo is also the US publisher of DQ6 on the DS.

In Japan it was always called Dragon Quest from day 1, Dragon Quest was only Dragon Warrior in the US though due to the name Dragon Quest already belong to a table top RPG or something like that.

and Dragon Quest was always published by Enix in Japan.

I'm quite aware of its Japanese history, down to the password system used in DQ1 there. However, my post was in reference to the US release, which, yes, did have a name change to avoid potential copyright issues with a tabletop RPG. Same goes for the publishing deal; the post I was in response to states they were unaware of Nintendo publishing 1-6 anywhere.

The Name change was funny though because there was a Table Top RPG with the Name Dragon Warrior Believe.
