Every Pokemon you will encounter in the main adventure (aka by the time you start to when you beat the elite four) is completely new. In fact, no older Pokemon will be seen until after the main game.
I just love the fact that this game is like a fresh start for everyone playing. Brand new world, brand new Pokemon, brand new fun. 
Also, the fact that you read Nintendo Power is awesome. Next issue should be awesome.
