First things first -- this interview is from GT TV - Feb 4/11. Interview starts at 1:10 if anyone is interested in watching it.

Geoff was not saying that Nintendo should sell all their games for really cheap. He asked Reggie if he really thinks games like Steel Diver are worth full price when people have become accustom to paying very low prices for comparable pieces of software. Reggie says they are, while low priced games are bad for the industry, not sustainable, and disposable.

I think everyone here can agree that selling games for $1-$2 is not sustainable and just perpetuates the boom and bust cycle of iOS developers where a select few do amazingly while many others barely scrape by or go bankrupt. Still, I looked for some recent data and a research firm in the Netherlands found that the average iPhone software sale price was $3.87, while the average iPad software sale price was $4.67. source

Most Nintendo games are far above the quality of games that appears on the AppStore. However, after looking at a gameplay video for the game in question, steel diver, it looks pretty basic and is certainly appears to be below many $10 AppStore, Steam, or PSN games in terms of content and replayability.
