I get the feeling that FFXIV's failure is just going to continue to hemorrhage their money. Deus Ex isn't going to save them and I seriously think FFXIII-2 is going to underperform (as well as The 3rd Birthday). Their lack of talent or quality is no longer a secret and probably the only other title they have coming up that I think will perform well at least critically is Tactics Ogre. Other than that I see NOTHING doing well.

I dont think Deus Ex will save them either, but their doing the right thing which is investing in their western assests. the Tomb Raider reboot looks promising, Deus Ex i think will turn out to be a popular game - like a modern day film noir version of Bioshock. and theres still the western developed Fortress project that could turn out well. and i think they will release a HD collection for FF and Tomb Raider, which might help them a bit in the short run.

so i think the western studios will do well, its the Japanese studios that are causing problems. simply because of the allocation of resources (5 years for 1 game) and for some reason the very poor IPs (Infinite Undiscovery, etc).  imo Tactics Ogre is swimming against the tides sadly, because its on PSP, with the PSP2 already announced and its a hardcore game i think.

I can't see Fortress making back its budget due to its, at best, messy dev cycle (and that's if it ever gets released). And the thing is 90% of the problems are on the SQUARE side of things, not Enix. Say what you will about Dragon Quest and tri-Ace, they've never really changed their attitude of how they do things. Even the Western side of things isn't immune to garbage, look at Kane and Lynch. Deus Ex and TO are the only things I find interesting. Right now FFXIV is STILL bleeding cash and none of Square's other projects look good. At all.

the company is one now its square enix if its squares fault then its enixes fault.

In terms of game quality the Enix side of things is fine; their games are as good as they've ever been unlike Square's titles which have had a sharp drop in quality. Tons of stuff developed from the Square side of the equation has been mediocre to absolute garbage. So, no, I'm not going to blame Yuji Horii and tri-Ace for how badly FF, the Mana series, and 3rd Birthday have turned out.

also this (from killian1):

"Seems to me that Square Enix should be focusing less on the Square side and more on the Enix sides.

ActRaiser, SoulBlazer, E.V.O., Terranigma, The 7th Saga, and Ogre Battle were classics for the SNES. They are all worthy of a reboot. My personal choice would be split between Act Raiser (the 1st with the overworld simulation, not the scroller hack and slash ActRaiser 2) and SoulBlazer.

Either let Final Fantasy rest to stir the pot of want or learn from Final Fantasy 12 and 13's mistakes and aim for greatness.

Too much FInal Fantasy, not enough Enix."

At the very least the Ogre Battle Saga is being revived with the remake of Tactics Ogre

well ill say that the third birthday is awesome and the only bad final fantasy that i have played is ff 14 so i cant agree with you there. ill agree that they should use more ips more often but  i wouldnt say just enixs old series will do them good square has some good franchises from back in the day as well. but id prefer if they worked hard on newer ips.
