Wii Sports was that game for Wii this generation...then Wii Fit, MK Wii just added more fuel to the fire. 

Nintendogs was that game for DS this generation...then Pokemon, NSMB Wii added more fuel to the fire.

also Final Fantasy VII was the Game that sold the PlayStation and along with further Final fantasy and other JRPG releases on the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 helped to drive home the PlayStation brand as the home of JRPGs.
