Playing Wii with 3DS?

I don't think 3rd parties will be prevented in any way from doing something cross platform 3DS/Wii, it's just that the next console will probably have some built in features (in the API or whatever it is called) making it easy to do cross platforming with minimal effort.

I doubt they will make it obligatory to have both platforms though to play a game, as that will limit the game's sales. If anything, it will be either some enhanced features you can unlock, or (what personally I would want most) the ability to continue playing the same game on both platforms (I think the PSP2 has this feature). So I play MH at home, streetpass will automatically pass the game save data to my 3DS, I go out with my 3DS and continue playing where I left off, then get back home, street pass automatically passes the save info to my console, and I continue playing on it where I left off on the 3DS...
