Personally, im not trying to downplay anything. Selling 166% of the competitors in a specific market is extremely good result. Simply pointing that this result is similar then before the said "shortages". Hell, its even higher then the week before. |
2010 cumulate sales in Americas: 360 = 8.5 million, PS3 = 5.5 million. 360 outsold PS3 by 54%
After Kinect 360 sales sky rocketed, on the week ending christmas (arbitrary week a month after Kinects release), 360 outsold the PS3 by 89% (775k compared to 410k). So No 360 sales in America have been near double PS3 sales for over a month after Kinect, and now the ratio drops when MS calls a shortage? Hm..
The holiday season is over, but Kinect demand is still high, 66% is a normal lead for 360 in Americas considering Kinect is still new.
I just expect 360 sales to be a little higher in America. In EMEAA Kinect sales are roughly the same as 360 sales, but in Americas Kinect is selling almost 30k above the 360. Microsoft said themselves that they are experiencing shortages, and at best case, those shortages won't be met until February.
So I still think the 360 will outsell the PS3 by a small margin worldwide for a long while coming. Wii and DS sales tend to drop lower then 360 and PS3 sales during the regular year (probably because PS3 and 360 are more hardcore consoles), so the 360 does have a reasonable chance to come in first worldwide. However I think the 3DS will steal that lead soon enough.
Of course the ratio is better this week then lasts, some stores are getting new shipments, so shortages are less severe.
Still 1st on the console front is very possible. You don't have to agree, but I've made my opinion clear and backed it up with sufficient reasoning.
P.S. Before the 360 Slim, the 360 was still outselling the PS3 in Americas, even after the PS3 Slim. However the difference was only about 20-30%, instead of the prior average of 50%.
