Eh I never got to invest in a Dreamcast, but the people I know with Dreamcasts, their systems are still functioning and the Dreamcast was only out for what 2 years?  So a majority of them are launch year systems, it's taken Microsoft longer than the Dreamcasts lifespan to fix issues, Sony usually gets it fixed within 1 to 2 internal hardware revisions.  I remember the old fix for PS2 DRE that was a big issue, X-Play had instructions on how to do it.
