Kind of defeats the purpose of going from the DS to the 3DS.

Um, the increased processing power, analog stick, widescreen, and new games can still be enough, especially the latter.

PSP with a touchscreen?

Xperia Play phone, minus the 2nd analog stick? O_o

While I agree with you that the 3DS is too expensive, I doubt they will release a non-3D version.

All I'm arguing is that it's possible, and it would be one solution if they need to make the price more reasonable.

But I do predict a price cut soon, revision or no, as Nintendo stated it was the E3 response that made them think the price would be worth it, and E3 is not the best indicator of the mainstream.

Can we all at least agree that a price cut is likely if the sales are hurt but the current price?

Well, being bundled with the one of the greatest games of all time adds infinite value, so we'll just disregard that for the moment, but the Wii did not have all those new gimmicks that the 3DS has, even without the 3D.

Games matter more than gimmicks. I'm not discussing the tech justifying the price. My point is that the tech won't matter, and will likely hurt the system more unless the games are good enough.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
