If this is the method I'm thinking of, I believe all you need is to know the "random" number Sony used to protect its software, rather than having to actually hack into the system proper. 

I guess the grey area itself has more grey area. Oh well, I don't go against doing things to your own product, and really don't hold a grudge against piracy.
