Talking about 3rd party franchises, yes, Monster Hunter Portable has become the most succesful IP in the land of the rising sun. It has to surpass DQIX to achieve it, so it only has to sell 1.3M units more, and I absolutely think it will.
Talking about all kind of IPs, first and third parties, obviously NO. MARIO is the total king. It has just sold 6M in the NDS version. Pokemon is bigger tha MH too. Black and White sales may achieve the same mark than New Super Mario Bros. And of course, casual games like Brain Trainig or Animal Crossing are massive too, so Monster Hunter still has a bit of competition. GO LAGIARUS, EAT THEM'ALL!!
