Bahaha thats so true. Mario probably isnt "epic" enough for him. On another tagent. I think people need to learn to differentiate between 'story' and 'story telling'. Mario has very little story telling. Few cutscenes, boring dialouge and 2-dimensional characters. But Mario games are full of story. Every new imaginative idea is a story in itself. Every star has its own story and challenge that is unique and entertaining. How many times have you had to climb over fruit in space. Mario is full strange and new ideas. I just think its injust to describe SMG story as vapid. I mean you could call it strange or illogical or silly, but NOT vapid. Mario's world is the opposite of vapid, it's colourful, imaginative and full of life. Mario game's popularity is centered on their consistancy with provide imaginative experiences that have depth of meaning. You can defend peoples right to have an oppinion, but not their right to misuse words. I can guarantee he didnt think overly about what he was saying. |
Your post is about gameplay, his complaint was about story, meaing what is motivating Mario to do what he's doing. |
If a picture can tell a thousand words, one might argue that Mario Galaxy's Gameplay IS its Story, as a moving interactive picture. For many simple and complex minds, this is sufficient, especially when those visuals are as creative and vivis as Mario Galaxy's. If Mr. Barlog wish to be lead like a sheep through his entertainment, well, that is reflected in his method of storytelling, no?
And remind me, Famine, to tell your future boyfriend/girlfriend that being kidnapped would not be a sufficient enough reason to attempt to rescue him/her. I'm sure that would go over like salmon pancakes.
