It's good advice. You don't even really need need technologies really to try. Something like Geometery wars used Analogs sticks in a somewhat new way to create a fresh kind of shoot em up game.
I've always thought it was odd every 360 comes with some form of head phones and no games have an option to hear in-game radio chatter over them or use the mic to issue squad commands. Surely it's not unfeasable for something like Gears of War to be made so you can use the headset to hear Anna's transmissions and use the mic to issue the simple attack/cove squad commands.
Even simple things like the using Analog sticks for different sentivity's of speed is often ignored for the PC standard of just Walk or Run speeds.
