Just checked it out. Essentially you turn your regular PC into a streaming service so that your Wii/X360/PS3 can access videos via their internet browser.
It costs $80 one time fee, or $40 first year and $20 every future year. Your PC accesses various websites like Hulu, Netflix, CBS, Fox, PBS, and so on and forwards the videostreams to your other devices.
I have a HTPC which is way more convenient as I don't need to make sure that my regular PC is on and running PlayOn. Nor do I waste bandwidth bouncing video streams off of my main PC as I get them directly. A self built HTPC would cost you about $200 more than PlayOn, but I think is more convenient and does a lot more.
