Well it wore off after the first year. It's the awesomeness that keeps selling. Novelty is stuff like HD, since better graphics always end up dated the next gen.

Wii is a bit more than a novelty I'de say, if the novelty did really wear off you'de think the sales would be much lower than it is now.
