Unless the whole retail was reporting sales to Microsoft (not impossible but improbable) the only numbers they have are "sold to retail".
Nintendo is the only company of the big three who has a tracking system company and only releases its numbers on fiscal quartil.

Its the same as last time, MS CONFIRMED ITS NOT SOLD TO RETAIL, but SOLD TO CONSUMERS. Either you are doing this just to downplay the numbers and get a rise out of people (they have a name for those people), or you are just daft.

5 million to consumers is a goal, and they will know when they reach that goal when they ship more than 5 million. It doesn't mean they are tracking every unit sold. They know their sell through because of stock levels (Which are low) compared to shipments. Nintendo is the only company that has their own tracking agency and its set up through serial numbers on the box that you scan when you sell a unit.
