I know one thing I LOVE to read when i'm bored is two people argueing over which superhero would win in a fight or if Star Wars could be Star Trek in a fight etc, etc.

I've NEVER seen one side change their mind... but i learn a lot, often about characters I don't know, or stuff I didn't know about in different universes... and often have my mind changed.

 

For example, just recently, I realized how much of a badass Akuma from street fighter was.  Always thought he was just a regular suped up martial artist... but then I saw clips from the Alpha games where he kicks a ship from the bottom of the ocean out of it, and another where he launches himself into space and smashes a meteorite as if he was freakin Superman.

I own the Alpha games too, just never beat em with Akuma i guess, or just forgot.

I actually forgot about those, I was talking purely about talking to people who act like brick walls. Arguments like the ones you describe are fine.
