the PSP is alot easier to hack then any other console or handheld ever made. It dosen't require a mod chip or any extra purchases. to mode a DS you need to buy 70 bux worth of stuff. the R4 about 50bux and a micro sd card from 15 to 40 bux.

god of war CCO will sell PSP systems however existing owners with hacked firmware psp's will just download it like they usually do. but this game does have the respectfull enough name to get even hacking owners to buy it cause its just that good of a franchise

Mod chips, having to open the console, and extra purchases don't really stop anyone who's going to hack a console from doing so. Just look at the Xbox and the PS2. Both of them had/have a mod scene that's far larger than that of the PSP and the latter can be modded with freaking Play-doh, yet neither of them saw such low software sales.

People are simply buying the PSP as a multimedia device first and a gaming device second because that's how Sony marketed it. That's not to say that people don't want to play games on it at all as it does have 12 million sellers and a grip of other titles that have sold atleast 500K, but that's become secondary to music and movies. You throw in a MS Pro Duo and you've basically got an Ipod Nano that plays games, and that's what's driving a lot of the hardware sales. For a little bit of anecdotal evidence, it's a very popular handheld, I see lots of people using them no matter where I go whether it be Philadelphia, New York, DC, Boston, etc, but they are using them as MP3 and movie players, not nearly as much for games.

Seriously, blaming so-called "piracy" is a lie and a shame. If it really had this kind of an effect on sales, then all of the record labels should have filed for bankruptcy a long time ago considering that for years now it's been possible to download an artist's entire discography in mere hours(at the most). The same can be said for the movie industry with the rise of Bittorent and Emule which make it possible to do the same thing with movies.

There are probably just as many people doing this with the DS considering that it's both easier and cheaper.

Actually the PSP has 16 million selers and extremly many 500k+ sellers , just that VGC does a horrible job at tracking PSP games unfortunatly . Still , I agree with you , many people take the PSPs gaming capabiliies as secondary options ...
