I really don't know why COD got such a big boost to the franchise, but it's lighting in a bottle, doubt it'll happen again to any franchise anytime soon.

While Gears 3 already seem to have some cool new modes (and of course 4 player online co-op) that's not enough to generate several millions of new owners.
