I don't like the Smash Bros series at all. I don't like fighting games in general mainly due to combo memorization. While I can see that Smash Bros is different in interesting ways from other fighting games, its even heavier reliance on memorizing dozens of different combos for various situations kills it for me. It's the same reason I can't stand the Soul Calibur series.

As for this annoying every Wii owner must buy Brawl or they are insane campaign I see on most video game forums, don't forget that 70% of Gamecube owners did not buy Melee (although I was one of the 30% who did) so there a lot of people like Rol and me who have 0 anticipation for the game itself.

Not sure what Smash Bros game you played...but most fighting games have stupid combos you need to memorize, yes, but Smash Bros has A+direction (up, down, left, right), or B+direction. That's every move right there, other than jumping, grabbing, and shield, each with their own buttons. Not much memorization going on.

Edit:  What Grey Acumen said ^.  Also, in most fighting games, every character has different special combos you need to memorize.  In Smash, every character uses the same button combinations...the moves are just different.  It's easy to pick up, but hard to master, as it's not memorization that gets you, but simply being able to think quickly and...fight well.  And that's how it should be.

And if you can't keep up with top players, well heck, there's always the handicap feature, don't be ashamed, it's there to make the game fun for everyone.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
