Unless Sony have shipped 2.5 million more than Microsoft in the last month it's pretty close to 3 million

They could've shipped even more than that EASILY, seeing as Sony covers a much bigger grid worldwide, are you aware of that? So yeah, it's only a matter of a couple of months before it becomes official. There are more PS3s , and functioning ones lots more than 360s too!

If they could have shipped 2.5 million more than Microsoft in a month then they'd be set to ship at least 7.5 million more than Microsoft this quarter, so no matter how many countries they're in they could never have managed this

Shipped units mean nothing, its units sold that counts. Remember Kinect wasn't shipped out when that figure was made, but PS3 Move bundles were. MS expects to sell 5 million Kinects by the end of the fisical year, so there is probably at least 2 million Kinect bundled 360's shipped since that figure was made.
