Take the nintendo out of the equation and sales and profits would be dismal for 2007, Wii and DS drove the industry in 2007 |
Exactly. Sales have been atrocious. I remeber analysts predicting 360 sales as being sustained at 400,000 a month throughout 2006! This hasn't even happened this year. And that's saying nothing of the failure in expectations of the PS3. This says nothing of their multi-billion dollar losses. Still this is only hardware.
More importantly, of those that haven't been swallowed by the consolidadtion that indicates a stagnating industry, virtually every 3rd party has posted sobering losses. Monstrous losses.
My point is, without Nintendo, any external observer would look at the industry and see it as rotting from the inside out. The funny thing about the situation, is that because the industry continues to ignore Nintendo wherever it can, one genuinely could subtract Nintendo's numbers and be fairly confident of their accuracy. Moreover, because in many ways a Nintendo sale does NOT subtract from a PS3/360 sales as has been the case in the past, their failures are very much their own fault and isolated. Nintendo is single handedly keeping the overall industry solvent and tenable. With Nvidia being awarded company of the year, I'd say Nintendo definitely isn't getting the recognition it deserves.
