I thought it was a Beat Em' Up. Is there a line between the two genres or are they simply the same but with or without the blades?

Hakudo muso (fist of the north star is more towards beat Em Up, there seems to point though were Action Adventure Platformer and pure Hank and slash genres interconnect. even Onimusha which is a survival horror in origin has more of connection with Hank & Slash like DMC.
