IMO you've said it yourself. Why are there so many good games this year? People are split on wahat to get so go for the bigger, more advertised one, such as SMG2, Red Dead Redemption, DQIX, Monster Hunter etc.
They can't afford all these games, so they have to make a decision. Hence why the sales are spread so thin
