Since the laser in my original drive got broken I built in the drive of my brother's old RROD 360.
However that drive isn't perfect either .If there is no disc in it, it won't open and you need all your strenght to get it out. However if there's a disc in it, you can just press the eject button and slightly pull the tray out.
I removed the faceplate so that it's easier to pull it out. If you encounter this problem more often, just make sure to never close the tray without a disc in it.
