They already confirmed that they will be partnering up in Japan to distribute 3D video content. Also with the addition of some form of web browser on the 3DS it is clear that they are moving to offer more than just gaming. But gaming is still their main focus and other features are built around that.

Bolded will be just a very secondary thing like Netflix recently added to Wii. It's like supporting Opera browser on DSes, did it start mobile internet revolution? No, it didn't, it was rather secondary, and cheap.

The point is that establishing 3D standards for the Web can't be done in such "easy come" manner. And pushing it won't be cheap thus Nintendo will need to cut profits (something which they won't do) or increase price of 3DS even more. That's not good for gaming, and Nintendo won't do it. And I bless them for that.

my point was that Nintendo did have interests outside of gaming especially for the 3DS, you said that nintendo had "zero interest beyond gaming" which is not true and I gave a solid example. I don't think that Nintendo are going to start a web revolution anyway, I am not even convinced that the 3DS will be able to view web video yet, let alone for it to be good enough to spark a revolution.
