I didn't buy it, I got it as a birthday gift but couldn't play it on my old laptop my usbs got warped and it needs a gamepad.

Uninstall/reinstall. Get the mouse support patch. If it still doesn't work, throw it away and never look back.

If it does work, find every texture hack, resolution hack, and effects hack you can find and make the game actually look decent.
