Actually it's expected that Gears of War 2 outsells Gears of War 1. Both games are still selling, but Gears 2 is getting like 10-15k sales a week, and Gears 1 is only getting like 3-4k a week. The difference is only about 210k, and with the boost all games get this holiday, Gears 2 should be above Gears 1 by the end of the year, or worst case before Gears 3.
As for SOCOM, the PS2 interations may have been good, but they appeal to an American audience, and the PS3 has not been too popular in Americas. Also I think the last SOCOM hurt the games image, so I really doubt this game will sell well.
