When it was released, the community was still almost at its peak. I agree it has shrunk as i've seen the latest figures, but maybe they took that step in order to take it to the next level. I agree though it probably made a mess of things especially with the gamereview and gamefeed sections. Let's also not forget, the traffic will increase during the holidays when things get more exciting, adn when we are back to our jobs and universities and VGC becomes our only salvation of the day :P
