I wasn't unimpressed, but after Spirit Tracks I assume that Skyward Sword will have too much of an Aonuma touch and the delay to early 2011 isn't long enough to get rid of all that garbage. What I expect is a Zelda that gets the combat right, but is plagued by too many interruptions in the form of cutscenes and an overreliance on puzzles in the dungeons.

Anouma is a game designer at Nintendo I presume?

What do you mean by "garbage"? Cutscenes and an abundance of puzzles?

Aonuma has been the director of most Zelda games since Majora's Mask and since then Zelda keeps straying away from its roots more and more. And yes, garbage are the cutscenes that are getting longer with each new game and an increasing focus on puzzles instead of combat. Modern Zelda has become so easy that it's no problem to beat the game. Without challenge, games become boring. So the story of the game pretty much becomes the driving force and well, it's nothing special either.

I don't think that gamers nowadays are looking forward to a new Zelda as much as they used to. That's due to games they stopped playing midway through not because they were too hard or had an OoT Water Temple like labyrinth, rather they did quit out of boredom. I believe Zelda has lost the status of being a "magical" franchise and has just become one among many others.

Well Zelda Ocarina was hard. I never beat it because I got lost in the dungeons.

You are spot on with the magical comment. Zelda lost its magic with Windwaker and couldn't redeem it with Twilight Princess despite going back to Ocarina style.

How would you rate the console Zeldas? Just very roughly to get an idea.
