These kind of contests sometimes turn into popularity contests, and thus, since GeOW is such a massively popular series today, it isn't a total surprise that Sephiroth is losing. There have been some pretty upsetting results in that contest so far as well.

Not all FFVI fans obviously. Just the ones who think FFVII ruined the series for some reason.

You mean like how Master Chief and  Sonic the Hedgehog lost to Bub and Bob in the hero contest?
