It had nothing to do with an "campaign of intimidiation." It's a campaign of common sense. They have the right to build a 15 story community center, but it's a douchebag thing to do. You literally can't miss the new building where the WTC subway is. It'd be the equivlent of building a church right next to like, every abortion clinic every bombed, when you consider the size of it... and the fact that people want to pay their respects there. As for this event... I would be surprised if this didn't happen every week... and also in churches and synagouges. I mean drunk people acting dumb and urinating on stuff? |
You keep using that example and I see nothing wrong with it. I'm atheist so I'm opposed to a church (or mosque/synagogue) being built anywhere. But unless you can prove that the people building the church bombed the abortion clinic you are just punishing a group of people because they have an association to a couple of extreme criminals.
I honestly don't know why the debate continues to rage because there are no plans to stop the community center from being built and it is privately owned.
It comes down to this simple question: Is it okay for a church or other religious temple to be built 2 blocks away from Ground Zero? If yes, then a mosque is okay too.
OT: Yeah the media is totally blowing things out of proportion and will only cause things to get worse.
