Well, saying Nintendo cares more about gaming than profits is obviously misleading. However, saying they care more about gaming than short-term profits may not be inaccurate. For Nintendo, gaming is everything - gaming is their future, so the state of it means everything to their long-term success.

We can't say Sony or MS doesn't care about the state of gaming, as I'm sure the game divisions definitely do. However, when it comes to pushing gaming as a medium, I feel like Nintendo is way ahead of the pack (in their methods, anyway). They're the ones trying to make a gamer out of everyone, with them displaying stuff like graphs of the social acceptance of video games... With a cause like that, profit oriented or not, I think it's a struggle worth cheering them on for.

Pretty much spot on there. I'd just add that Nintendo have always been a gaming company first and foremost. Even in the pre-video game days they were making playing cards, so gaming is to thank for their very existence... Meanwhile, Sony are an electronics company, and Microsoft are a computer software company. They both decided to enter the video games industry after seeing others become successful as an attempt to increase their worth and get a piece of the pie.

So if we're going to start talking about which company 'cares' more about gaming, you can't really argue against it being Nintendo unless you revise a hell of a lot of history.

That said, they'll all care about profits, as that's what business is about.
