Sony took a loss on the PS3 because it is not their main business. Their main business is Electronics. The only reason they are in the game business is to support their electronics business. Do you remember why the PS3 was so expensive in the first place? That's right, Blu-Ray.

Sony took a loss on the PS3 so they could shove Blu-Ray down everybody's throats, force everyone to repurchase all their movies, and push everybody to buy expensive HD television sets that they didn't need. Now they are trying to do the same with their 3D televisions.

Nintendo, on the other hand, doesn't have any other divisions, their focus is all on gaming. They CAN'T take a loss because they don't have anything else to support them.

LOL.  Sure, I'll agree they used the PS3 to trojan horse in bluray, but people didn't HAVE to buy a PS3 if they thought it was too expensive or didn't want bluray (and a lot of people didn't buy a PS3 for those reasons).

You do understand that bluray players play DVDs right?  So there is no need to rebuy all your movies unless you want to.
