MH3 came out in Japan, Wii Sports Resort came out in America (and was still selling huge in EU, its second week). The weekly comparisons for software are pretty useless. The software has been pretty weak this year overall though, and with last year's releases it may be tough to keep up, even with the larger install base.
Nintendo singlehandedly carrying the Wii (responsible for nearly all its system sellers) is finally taking its toll, I guess. It's no easy task, after all, Nintendo is the only company that has ever pulled this off so well. This holiday should be fine (for everywhere but maybe EMEAA), though it's hard to tell what's in store for the future. It's really all in Nintendo's hands, as it always has been. They need to create new excitement for the system, somehow.
People expecting Wii to be outsold regularly by PS3 / 360 next year, though? I don't see that happening.
