| sapphi_snake said: Rashomon (1951) The film depicts the rape of a woman and the murder of her samurai husband, through the widely differing accounts of four witness, including the bandit/rapist, the wife, the dead man speaking through a medium, and lastly the narrator, the one witness that seems the most objective and least biased. I also believe it was the first Asian film to win an Oscar (it won an Honorary award). |
I just watched Seven Samurai this weekend and it was every bit as amazing as I expected. Akira Kurasowa is a director I will definitely look into more from now on.
On Topic: Persepolis is a great lesser known animated film. It is about a young girl coming of age in a radicalizing Iran and other parts of Europe. It is black and white but completely beautiful. Funny and moving all at once. Watch this film!
