I'd actually say...

DS = vs N64 no texture filtering, better geometry, better 2D, better audio = closer to PlayStation

PSP = vs PS2 better texturing, far worse geometry, less postprocessing/effects = closer to Dreamcast 

This is more accurate yes.

3DS will be half way between Xbox 360 early gen games and PS2 late gens games.
