ok, morenoingrato... You haven't understand yet how Mario games work.
Never, NEVER base your hype on story in a Mario game. I mean, Mario 64 had ... 0 story. Sunshine's story was quite better, but it is the least appreciated 3D Mario game.
And... Bowser made a good joke with the mushrooms, really.
