I think we can no more comprehend the next DS than we could comprehend the first DS. Remember how we couldn't comprehend the first DS at all? Even when Nintendo announced it and showed it off, they left out the touch screen part, and we were left completely uncomprehending. As for the next PSP... unless they take the Move approach of shamelessly copying the DS... is there really anything they can do that would elicit much excitement?

Your saying that there is still room to innovate and bring new features when it comes to Nintendo handheld but not when it comes to Sony handheld? Thats how it sounds you know. Your also talking like Nintendo invent everything, while im pretty sure dual screen was the only feature not available somewhere else.

"unless they take the Move approach of shamelessly copying the DS" Really?! Its a different tech with a similar concept,  dont you think shamelessly copying is a little exagerated?

Well, the DS was pretty damned innovative, and I think most people are expecting the 3DS to follow that innovative path. Can you really fault someone for expecting more innovation from the Nintendo handheld than the Sony handheld? And I'm not saying Nintendo invented everything, or even anything (I don't think 2 screens is so much an invention as it is a design choice). But there's a huge difference between invention and successful and innovative implementation.

Perhaps I'll be proven quite wrong and the PSP-2 (if it comes) will blow away expectations. But right now I think my expectations seem to be fairly justified.

I agree with your last paragraph, its natural to expect something more based on past experiences. But re-read what I underline from one of your earlier post.

I don't think my underline is contradictory with my later statements. The DS brought forward a large number of innovations and I expect the 3DS to build on that. The PSP sought to innovate by increasing the power to match that of consoles and adding in non gaming features. As nice as some of those features are, that doesn't change gaming. In another thread rumours of the PSP2's stats are being kicked around and the biggest innovation in them are touchscreen (DS) and two cameras (DSi) while those are still probably rumours, it's kind of hard to imagine what Sony would do to build on their PSP that doesn't involve following Nintnedo's lead.

Expecting Sony to follow Nintendo's lead is very much based on past expectations.
