Wii owners are probably mostly like me; those who owned a GBA and a PS2 because there was nothing compelling about owning a Gamecube which was more or less PS2 Jr. Don't act like you were all hardcore for owning a gamecube either; people in general who are gaming couch potatoes are laughable enough when they call themselves "hardcore". Yet when a Gamecube fan calls themselves hardcore, I can only shake my head and laugh =P
The Wii was the Nintendo Home Console that finally gave the bulk of the Nintendo fans a reason to get a Nintendo console. The N64 was a good system, but the games were expensive, and only like 10-15 games even came out for the thing per year.
The way I see it, the Wii is the true successor to the SNES in terms of Nintendo's Home Console; with the N64 and the Wii being Nintendo's time off. In fact, Nintendo laid down the patents for Wii controllers during the N64 era, but the technology wasn't quite there, so they released the Gamecube which was sort of a "Well, we have to have something there" system while they developed their next real serious home console.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
