Come on, '08 was weak, but '09 was awesome; the first true 2D Mario iteration in nearly two decades, the sequel to the best game this gen in Galaxy 2, a new Metroid game co-developed by a third party that specialises in hardcore gaming, and the return of Golden Sun on DS.
