Pokemon is an incredibly succesful franchise.

People tend not to realise that Nintendo is a toy maker at heart who just happen to be good at producing top notch games and have a loyal hardware following.

Just going to dig out my Donkey Kong Game and Watch !

Nintendo directly owns 1/3 of Pokémon.  2/3 if you consider Creatures Inc. part of Nintendo.
