Financial years are always numbered according to the calendar year in which the FY ends (though perhaps not in the USA??). So, according to the FY Sony operates in it exceeded it's FY 09 sales with an entire 1/4 (and a bit more besides) to spare. Still an excellent YoY result. I guess SCEA could report its US only figures according to the US FY: USA FY 09 - (VGC Americas * 0.83) 2.95 million USA FY10 1st 6 months - (VGC Americas * 0.83) 2.94 million Not quite outselling in 6 months but as close as makes no difference, and less than 1 week's sales in the 2nd half to make it over the line.
