I really made a big mystake on all of my posts, should have just sticked to € instead of using $ and €. But anyway, even if it isn't very cheap to release products in Europe, I really can't see how it could be 80$ more expensive per Wii. Well actually, all countries in Europe get ripped off by everyone. Except the UK. #4, "They even admitted that they thought about selling the system at 300$ during launch, but the decided a cheaper price was better" "You really think Sony wanted to give you a good deal on the system?" Replace "Sony" by Nintendo and you'll get my opinion about that - they probably made the math and knew that a 250$ console would be more appealing, and therefor it would give 'em more money. #5, 600$ might be too much money for a console, I can understand that. And most great games only started to show up on 2007/08, so you can say that Sony did bad on the early years. And yh, I think that Sony gave me a good deal - the software is pretty damn good, at least in my opinion, and besides that, the hardware is reliable and the most advanced on consoles (of course that doesn't mean anything if it doesn't have good games). If someone sells me a car for 6000$, even tho it costed 8000$ to make, then at least in my head, it's a good deal... specially because it does stuff that other cars don't XD |
1) wasn't aimed at you, but everyone who claims that nintendo is evil because they didn't lose money while selling a console while Sony did.
2) sorry I interpreted that a console should come with a nunchuck as a controller should come as a nunchuck. Next time say what you mean. Either way, they would charge $60 for a Wiimote/Nunchuck combo which really isn't that expensive compared to the $54 PS3 controller. However, you don't need a nunchuck for most games, so why force it on a customer? seems like a good idea to me.
3) you asked about a price, and it was the price. As for 250 eruo != $330. You have a ~20% VAT. This places it at ~$270 which an extra $20 for distribution in PAL territories is understandable.
4) I don't deny they wanted to make more money, everyone does, but they didn't intentionaly overprice it in case it only sold 10m to the Nintendo faithful. Nintendo themselves thought they would only sell 20m units lifetime (like all the analysts) hence the horrible shortages as they had to ramp up production facilities.
5) I don't even know why we are talking about Sony costing so much, but people keep using it as a poor example of why Nintendo are a bunch of greedy bastards. Sony was just as greedy, but they failed and instead lost money. Again, if someone sold you a car for $6000 (rather than 8k) and then forced you to do all the work at their shop and charged more than anyone else, would you feel you got a good deal? Thats how the PS3 works. You have to buy their PS3 software which they charge more from 3rd parties than anyone else. It's just that the costs are hidden with the games rather than being right up in your face. In the end, Neither company makes me feel like I got more value for my $, mostly because I waited until I got the PS3 for $300 which is a much more reasonable price for a blu-ray player & game system. Espeically because the PS3 failed as a multimedia system and I ended up building a HTPC to repalce it (with the exception of Blu-ray)
