Looking at the Wii, I'd say these are the results of bad 3rd party support.
If you're going to buy a Wii, you normally don't do it for 3rd party games, you do it for Nintendo games.
This has nothing to do with Nintendo games being automatically superior to all games from all publishers on all consoles, but certainly true if we only look at the Wii.
With Nintendo games, you always get what you expect.
