Gaming - HD vs Wii dumbness - View Post

The problem here is that you're equating single games - big ones - in a paricular region to support your point whereas you do not treat the same userbase differences across regions with the same weight.

Even worse, you're taking a singlee game as being indicative of buying trends across the consoles. Even with the top 15 of each console, you're not painting it properly. Here; take this:

http://www.vgchartz.com/games/index.php?&results=50&name=&console=X360&keyword=&publisher=&genre=FPS&order=Sales&boxart=Both&showdeleted=®ion=All&alphasort=

And compare it to this:

http://www.vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=&keyword=&console=PS3®ion=All&developer=&publisher=&genre=FPS&boxart=Both&results=50&order=Sales

See the difference? See how many more FPSes the 360 sells?

Let's expand that to includde "Shooters" in general:

360:

http://www.vgchartz.com/games/index.php?name=&keyword=&console=X360®ion=All&developer=&publisher=&genre=Shooter&boxart=Both&results=50&order=Sales

PS3:

Now Carl, here's the thing: different userbases in different regions means the userbases have different buying habits. Demographic differences are differences in demographics whether they're due to regions or whatever, but the point remains that the consoles differentiate themselves to gamers and tha results in different buying habits!

Right, i will concede on the shooters thing. It will get nowhere and we will keep on bringing up the same points over and over and i can't be bothered doing it today ¬_¬

From what i have seen, the 2 consoles owners have the same buying habits when it comes to the multiplats. We don't see a drastic difference in the sales of a multiplat game on one platform when compared to another, without any special reason.

But back onto the main point of the thread. I never put what i thought about the whole thing.

I think the PS3 and 360 are similar enough in features, power, types of games, "buying habits"... Pretty much everything.

The Wii on the other hand, is so different to both of them on so many levels... And it's why it gets singled out and put against the other 2 consoles.
