not that I'm endorsing this, but someone needs to make a thread titled
"why are x360 exclusives selling so badly compared to Wii?"
I mean, Microsoft won the generation by getting to 10m first in the US. They even announced it. (heck, they still have it on their own website 
- http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/may08/05-14360First10PR.mspx ) Their exclusives should have easily sold more if they won.
As for the real answer, it is diversification. If you moved those 4m extra sales from Japan to the US you'd probably see all the shooters rise in sales by a bit, while other games popular in Japan would fall in sales (like Minna no Golf).
