lol, this is so dumb. I ditched cable a long time ago, but I didn't need a X360 to do it (or even a PC). Also, I'm sure he'll be tempted to buy videogames which will end up costing him the same price as his cable service...
Had he bought a super cheap HTPC he could have replaced even more TV shows rather than having to pay for Netflix which cost him $15/month and XBL for $35/year and not had to pay a dime (other than internet costs).
Not knocking the X360 for being a capable media center (i've never used it, but I've heard it is good) but it isn't exactly fiscally smart if you lost a job as you can go much cheaper. In fact, all he needed was an antenna for $15 if he wanted to watch Law & Order SVU as it's on NBC over the air for free.
